Background: Cancer metastasis is one of the important causes of death in patients with malignant tumors. The process of cancer metastasis is not random. Different cancer cells have their preferred homing sites. Recently, several studies have demonstrated that tumor cell migration and leukocyte trafficking are both critically regulated by chemokines and their receptors , there are many similarities in these two processes . Chemokines are a large family of chemotactic cytokines, which are fundamentally involved in the recruitment of leukocytes to specific tissues . Chemokine receptors on tumor cells show a restricted and a specific expression, and this limited expression of chemokine receptors may be involved in specific patterns of tumor metastasis .Recently, many researches have demonstrated that SDF-1 and its specific recptor CXCR4 exerts a pivotal role in the metastasis of different malignant tumors to specific organs. In epithelial ovarian cancer cell lines, CXCR4 was the only expressed receptor . Moreover, it involves in the peritoneal metastasis of ovary cancer. Gastric cancer tend to metastasize to lymph node and peritoneum. To date there is no efficient therapy to treat this condition. Peritoneal carcinomatosis of gastric cancer is a frequent cause of death in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Objective: We try to elucidate the molecular mechanism of the lymph node and peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer through the detection of CXCR4 expression in different kinds of specimens of stomach carcinoma.Method:(1) We selected 69 cases of primary lesion from patients with gastric cancer who accepted operations during January,...
