Objective: To investigate the relationship of the expressions of chemokine receptor CXCR4 and vascular endothelial growth factor C ( VEGF-C ) with metastasis in human gastric cancer. Methods: Immuohistochemistry was used to detect the expressions of CXCR4 and VEGF-C in 207 samples of human gastric cancer. The relationship between CXCR4 and VEGF-C expressions and the clinicpathological diameters was statistically analyzed. Results: The positive rate of CXCR4 expression with lymph node metastasis was higher than that without lymph node metastasis(54.2% vs 25.6%,P < 0. 01). The positive rate of VEGF-C expression with lymph node metastasis was higher than that without lymph node metastasis(48.2% vs 21.8%, P < 0. 01) . The positive rate of CXCR4 expression with peritoneal metastasis was higher than that without peritoneal metastasis(78.4% vs 26.5%,P < 0. 01). But the positive rate of VEGF-C expression with peritoneal metastasis was closed with that without peritoneal metastasis(27.0% vs 33.5%,P > 0. 05). The positive expression of CXCR4 was consistent with the positive expression of VEGF-C, and the expression levels of CXCR4 and VEGF-C were closely correlated with lymph node metastasis, but not with, age, sex, tumor size.ConcIusion: CXCR4 and VEGF-C expressions may become predictors for the metastasis and recurrence of gastric cancer.
