Propofol(2,6-diisopropyl phenol), as a new general anesthesia drug, because of interval rapid; awakening time rapid and fewer side effects which is widely used for the induction and maintenance in clinical surgery anesthesia and sedation therapy in an Intensive Care Unit. Propofol also be used in out-patient clinic, gastroscopy , abortion and Pediatric sedation outside the operating room etc.But intravenous is inconvenient, safety margin is narrow , due to its potential for respiratory and cardiovascular depression, and pain on injection, are the most described side effects of the intravenous application of propofol. Our study investigates the sedation, anesthetic , analgesia action and study of its pharmacokinetics of orally taken propofol in mice. This survey was designed to provide data the safety and efficacy on sedation and anesthetic effects in mice, it may be can provide an effective channel and the widespread use of propofol by non-anaesthesiologists. and particularly non-medical staff. There is still much scope to investigate, further work is required to confirm its safety.
