Background : Estrogens are C-18 steroids synthesized from cholesterol in the ovary premenopausally and in the peripheral tissue in postmenopausal women. They play important roles in many organs and systems in organism except genital organs . The biological action of estrogens is determined by the structure of the ligand, the subtypes of estrogen receptor (ER), the nature of the gene promoter responsive unit as well as the character and balance of co-activators and co-repressors which present in different target cells, and E2 is the principal and most potent estrogen in organism.Estrogen affects the target organs function by interacting with ER. The studies showed that ERs(ER-α, ER-β) were widely distributed in skin and skin appendages including stratum basale and stratum spinosum, outer root sheath, epithelial matrix and dermal papilla cells, sebaceous, blood vessels, dermal fibroblasts.Biological action of Estrogen on skin include :(1) Preventing skin aging. After the menopause, female skin undergo profound changes including skin dryness, atrophy, poor wounding healing and reducing of hair numbers and in histology it demonstrated that the glycosaminoglycan...
