Objective: Compared with Lovastatin, to observe the effects of Xuezhikang capsule on patients with hyperlipidemia and carotid atherosclerosis, and to observe its effect on blood lipids and aorta atherosclerosis of rats with high fat diet. To discuss its mechanism from vascular endothelium-protecting and anti-oxidation aspects.Methods: 1. Clinical study: 72 patients with hyperlipidemia and 45 patients with carotid atherosclerosis were divided into Xuezhikang group, Lovastatin group and blank group, the course of treatment was 6 months. To observe the effect on TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, endothelium-dependent diastolic function of brachial artery, thickness of carotid plaque, Crouse integral and clinical symptoms. 2. Experimental study: To reproduce high fat diet rat models with hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis, to observe the effect of Xuezhikang and Lovastatin on TC, TQ LDL-C, HDL-C after 30 days. To observe the variations of MDA, SOD, and the pathological and morphologic changes of aorta and give image analysis to IMT and smooth muscle cells after 12 weeks.Results: 1. Xuezhikang could reduce blood lipid level of patients with hyperlipidemia, high fat diet rats. 2. Xuezhikang could relieve the carotid atherosclerosis plaque, improve endothelium diastolic function and symptoms. 3. Xuezhikang could regulate MDA, SOD. 4. Xuezhikang could have anti-proliferation of smooth muscle, anti-athrosclerosis and plaque stabilization effects. The anti-oxidation effect of Xuezhikang was superior to that of Lovastatin.Conclusion: Xuezhikang has an exact effect of reducing blood lipid, anti-oxidation, protecting vascular endothelium and anti-atherosclerosis. And it is superior to Lovastatin in anti-oxidation, deserved to be applied and spread.
