OBJECTIVE: Immunoglobulin A nephropathy(IgAN) is the most common form of glomerulonephritis in worldwide. Recently aberrant O-glycosylation of serum IgAl is presumed to be one of the main pathogenesis of IgAN. Astragalus membranaceus has been used in treatment of kidney diseases and has shown the significant effect on CKD. However, the mechanism of Astragalus membranaceus has not been studied clearly. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Astragalus mongholicus on the galactosylation of IgAl in IgAN patients.METHODS: 20 ml venous blood was obtained from 15 patients with biopsy-proven IgAN, and 10 normal indiviuals. The lymphocytes were isolated and cultured in vitro. The cells cultured were divided into control group, PHA -stimulated group and PHA-Astragalus mongholicus co-stimulated group. The IgA concentration and galactosylation degree in the supernatant was tested by ELISA after 5 days and the cells were counted before and after culturing.RESULTS: (1)No apparent difference was observed in the number of...
