Purpose: To analyze CT finding of advanced gastric carcinoma on MSCT and to evaluate the value of tri-phase contrast enhancement technique with water opacyfied gastrointestinal ducts on the preoperative staging of gastric cancers. Materials and Methods: 56 consecutive patients with endoscopic confirmed or clinical suspected gastric carcinoma were preoperatively evaluated with MSCT using the water - filling gastro intestine. Each case was staged according to the TNM classification criteria. All patients subsequently underwent surgery and got pathological results. Features of MSCT were compared with histological staging of tumor invasion depth. Results: MSCT has detected all the 56 gastric lesions. Compared with histological results, MSCT achieved correct T staging in 49 patients (73. 00%) and correct N staging in 39 patients (70.00%). The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity of MSCT for diagnosing involvement of tunica serosal were 89. 00%, 89.70% and 82.00%, respectively. Conclusion: The triphasic enhanced MSCT is sensitive in detection of gastric carcinoma. It plays an important role in guiding surgical treatment, especially after TNM staging.
