Objective: To study the application of copper needle and its side effect on body in treating hemangioma and vascular malformation of superficial body,as well as the theory attributing to the treatment and the relation to cell apoptosis are disscused .Methods: 55 cases with hemangioma or vascular malformation treated by copper needles from January 1999 to January 2006 in our department were reviewed retrospectively, including 41 cavernous hemangiomas, 4 racemose hemangiomas, 8 multiplicate hemangiomas, and 2 varicose veins according to conventional classification, by Mulliken' s standard which including 43 venous malformations, 4 arteriovenous malformations, 5 multiplicate venous malformations and 3 venous malformations combining capillary hemangiomas . Three methods were used respectively in treatment, which were retaining copper needles into the hemangioma only , retaining copper needles into the hemangioma associated with ligating the neoplasm, puncturing copper needles into the hemangioma followed by DC. 11 cases were testing the contents of Cu in their serum as well as their liver and kidney power before and after copper needles treatment .Further more, laboratory examination were peformed to find whether hemolysis took up in these patients. In situ TdT mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling(TUNEL) staining was used to detect the apoptotic endothelial cells and H-E staining was used to observe the specimens...
