Cervical Spondylosis of Vertebral Artery Type (CSA) is a common disease based on cervical spaine disks protrusion and with the clinical manifestation of Headache, dizziness, pain and stiffness in nuchae, upper limb pain and numbness;cataplexy etc. As the progress and development of modern society, and the changing of life pattern, the incidence rate of CSA has increased in recent years. Besides, the age of onset of this illness has been younger than before. CSA has become one of severe diseases which threatens people with health and living quality. Therefore, more study on CSA and to find the effective way of treatment are very meaningful. Based on my tutors long-term clinical practice , modern research and systematic review of literature, we adopted therapeutic method of acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation comprehensive program. Its purpose is to testify the treatment effect of CSA done by acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation, and research the physio-mechanisms of effect of acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation therapeutics using the Transcranial Doppler(TCD), furthermore to discuss the effective assessment indexes of traditional Chinese medicine in treating CSA. In order to probe into clinical value of the acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation comprehensive program for treatment of cervical spondylosis of arterial type(CSA),we randomly divided 100 eligible subjects into an acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation group with 40 subjects, an acupuncture group with 30 subjects, a "Long shi" manipulation group with 30 subjects. The baselines of the general data were no different among the 3 groups. They were treated with acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation comprehensive program , simple acupuncture and simple "Long shi" manipulation, respectively. And multiple-dimensional indexes were established to evaluate the therapeutic effect and safety. The indexesinclude: (1) The therapeutic effect after treatment;(2)The evaluation in ameliorating the symptoms of dizziness in nuchae and the functions with clinical symptom scores before and after treatment;(3) The effect in ameliorating the instability of the cervical vertebrae before and after treatment;(4) The evaluation about the hemorheological changes of vertebral arteries with transcranial Doppler examination before and after treatment, using the indexes of systolic peak velocity(Vp),mean velocity(Vm) and end diastolic peak velocity(Vd). (5) The evaluation about the safety. The results are listed as follows.(l)The effective rate were 95% in the acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation group, 76.6% in the acupuncture group, 80% in the "Long shi" manipulation group, respctively, the acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi " manipulation group being better than the other 2 groups(P<0.05);(2)After treatment the total cumulative scores for symptoms in the 3 groups increased significantly(all P<0.01), the acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation group being superior to the other 2 groups(all P<0.01).The symptoms of dizziness, cervicodynia and omalgia, headache , the ability of daily life and work, the adaptability of mentality and society were all ameliorated after treatment in every group. The acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation group is better than the other 2 groups;(3) The acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation group is more effective than the other 2 groups in rectifying the instability of the cervical vertebrae;(4)The systolic peak velocity(Vp),mean velocity(Vm) and end diastolic peak velocity(Vd). in vertebral artery of 3 groups were obviously improved as compared with those before treatment, the acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation group being superior to the other 2 groups(all P<0. 05). (5)N0 adverse effects were found in the 3 groups of our research. This acupuncture combined massage ointment and "Long shi" manipulation comprehensive therapy has a definite therapeutic effect on CSA with safety , it can eliminate the pathologic stimulus on the cervical vertebrae , efficiently improve the symptoms of CSA and improve the blood flooding station of vertebrobasilar . It is of superiority as compared with the simple acupuncture or the simple "Long shi" manipulation.
