Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. is one of famous ten traditional Chinese medicine in the south of coutry. The source of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth., which is recorded in 《Chinese Pharmacopoeia》 (the version of 2005, 1 set), is the dried and upper part of the earth of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. of Lemiaceae.The function of it is removing dampness by means of aromatics, relieving stomach and stopping vomit, relieving superficies syndrome. Applying the following symptom: retention of damp in the middle-energizer, Summer-heat and damp, accidie, Feeling of discomfort and fullness in the chest and hypoch-ondrium, cramp and diarrhea, etc.Pogostemon cablin (Bianco) Benth. has been used for a long history as a useful herb. Many medical researchers have been working on it. 《Chinese Pharmacopoeia》 (the version of year 2000) record only character distinction, microstructure distinction and simple physical chemistry distinction, but the measurement of routine index of quality evaluation. 《Chinese Pharmacopoeia》 (the version of year 2005) add the measurement and contents of its impurity, water, total ash, acidity -insolubility ash, leaf and ethanol immersing substance. In order to establish methods of quality control for this drug, researches have been worked on the routine index of quality evaluation.The results showed as follows:1.Quality evaluation on Pogostemon cablin (Bianco) Benth. in different markets. The studies on Pogostemon cablin (Bianco) Benth. in different markets show that they are all tally with the standard of 《Chinese Pharmacopoeia》 (the version of year 2005) . Researches on their volatilize oil range from0.5874ml/100g to 0, 8864ml/100g show that there are no obvious differences among them on naphtha content. Studies on the total contents on 10 component parts of Pogostemon cablin (Bianco) Benth. All are above 80%, but the content of its main component part called Pogostone are all below 0.4%.2. Analyze the difference between the Pogostemon' s quality of breeding with traditional cottage and breeding with organized foster. We examine the conventional index such as impurity, moisture, dust overall, fluid infiltration and alcoholic infiltration. The result shows that the impurity, moisture, fluid infiltration and alcoholic infiltration accord with each regulation in((Chinese Pharmacopoeia)) (the version of year 2005) .The dust overall of 4 batches medicinal materials don't up to grade. The experiment shows that the dust overall content in leaves higher than stalk. Overabundant leaves can lead the increasing content of dust indeed higher than the request in ((Chinese Pharmacopoeia)) (the version of year 2005) . So we must consider the difference of the content of dust overall caused by the different proportion of leaves and stalk. We examine the volatilize oil' s content in Pogostemon. The volatilize oil's content in Pogostemon breeding with traditional cottage range 0.3575 to 1.6545 ml/lOOg. It differs from each sample. The volatilize oil' s content in Pogostemon breeding with organized foster range 0.5951 to 2.9832 ml/lOOg. It also differs from each sample. We compare the volatilize oil altogether in Pogostemon breeding of traditional cottage with that breeding of organized foster. We realize that it don' t show an obvious difference. But the volatilize oil's content of Pogostemon next generation of number 13 and 14 breeding with organized foster higher than other batches, especially number 13 higher than others clearly. It shows that the volatilize oil be way of hypo-metabolize offspring, its content shows the increasing trend in pace with the number of breeding generation after changing the way of breeding. We examine ten index composition' s content of volatilize oil in Pogostemon. All are up 80 percent except two batches. But the chief index composition the total content, of Pogostemon all are low obvious, down 0.7 percent. The total content of Pogostemon breeding with organized foster higher than those breeding with traditional cottage a bit. We compare the total content of Pogostemon next generation breeding with organized foster with the last generation. We realize that the next generation shows the increasing trend.3. Analyze the quality of Pogostemon aside front and back. We examine theconventional index such as moisture, dust overall, fluid infiltration, alcoholic infiltration. The result shows that the content of moisture, dust overall and alcoholic infiltration descend in pace with the time aside lengthen. But fluid infiltration opposite, it maybe because some composition of Pogostemon transform. The medicinal composition volatilize oil lose or transform into other matter, so the content of alcoholic infiltration descend. The volatilize oils content of batch in year 2006 lower clearly than year 2004. It shows that the content of alcoholic infiltration in Pogostemon descend in pace with the time aside lengthen. We examine ten index composition's content of volatilize oil in Pogostemon. All are up 80 percent. But the content of year 2006 all are lower than year 2004 a bit. The chief index composition the total content of Pogostemon shows the increasing trend. It maybe caused by the transformation of other volatilize matter in the course of storing up. It. shows that the oil in Pogostemon can be better stocked in 0~~10°C.
