OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to assess the clinical effect and the influence and meaningsto Il-8 of the Weijing Soup to chronic obstuctive pulmonary disease in acute exacerbation.METHODS60 patients with mild or moderate AECOPD according to the retention of Obstruction of Lung by Phlegm and heat syndrome in TCM were selected from the outpatient clinic. Patients were randomly assigned to the treating group (group T) or to the control group (group C) on a single-blind basis. Group T was treated by Wei jing soup combination with routine westem medicine for 10 days and group C was treated only by routine westem medicine. Comparing the clinical symptom , IL-8, lung function, blood gas analysis of the patients with mild or moderate COPD in acute exacerbation condition according to the Obstruction of Lung by Phlegm and heat syndrome in TCM.RESULTSAs to syndrome curative effect the effective rate was 90% but group C was 73. 33%. They are has significant difference (P<0. 05) .Main syndrome had been improved significantly in group T(P <0.01)which has significant difference compared with group C (P<0.01 或 P<0.05)After the study period, FEV1 of has significant differences in group T (P<0. 05) but not in group C. There were no significant differences in FEV1% results in either group. But from the result we could know that FEV1 and FEV1% in two group were ascending slightly after the period, while they are in evidence in group T.As for the result of blood gas analysis, group T and group C could both improve the P02 and reduce the PCO2. And there was significant difference in group T compared with group C (P<0. 05) about anoxia and carbon dioxide retention,According to IL-8 , there was significant difference in two group(P<0. 01) .There was significant difference compared group T with group C after treatment (P<0.05) .CONCLUSIONSThe management of clear away heat and disperse phlegm combination with routine westem medicine reduced syndrome ^ advanced lung function > improved anoxia and carbon dioxide retention and debased the level of IL-8 relative to group C ( only by routine westem medicine) in clinical trials on patients with AECOPD by Phlegm and heat syndrome in TCM.
