Object: To explore the feasibility of (the) BCP being used in bone tissue engineering through the contrastive observation of Biphasic Calcium Phosphate(BCP),the Hydroxyl Apatite (HA) and Beta - Tricalcium Phosphate (β-TCP)'s respective capacity of rehabilitating the calvarial defects of Sprague-Dawley rats,Method:In our experiments, the autograft of Bone Mesenchymal Stem Cells of Sprague-Dawley rats were cultivated,induced and polarized for 14 days. One part of the autograft of Bone Mesenchymal Stem Cells of SD rats and the Biphasic calcium phosphate were composed as experimental group. Another part of the autograft of Bone Mesenchymal Stem Cells of SD rats was composed with HA andβ-TCP as the control group. The experiments were done on SD rats. We made calvarial defects areas of 5mm in diameter in the two flanks of their skulls. The BCP/BMSCs composites were implanted into the calvarial defects of the right flanks of the first and the second groups. The left flank of the first group was implanted into HA/ BMSCs composites, while the left flank of the second group was implanted withβ-TCP/ BMSCs. The last/third group was loaded with nothing as control group. Every 4 weeks, we killed half of the rats in each group separately until the 8th week. Through the histology, X optical glass examination, the inverted microscope observation and observation under 20 times objective lens through Image-Pro Plus computer image analysis system, we calculated in each field of vision the percentage of new bone forming separately so as to appraise the situation of the new bone growing. in each groupResult: At different time periods, the double factors variance analysis is done to analyse the quality of new forming bone among each group. The difference among each groups' quantity of new forming bone shows statistics significance. P<0.05 suggests that no matter in the 4th or the 8th week,the born-forming of the BCP/BMSCs group is more effective than the (the other two groups/)β-TCP/ BMSCs group and the HA/ BMSCs group. The most effective turns out to be in the 8th week.Conclusion:The BCP /BMSCs composites can repair calvarial defects effectively. This/our study suggests that this material could be a promising scaffold material for bone tissue engineering.
