Objective: To observe the change of erythrocyte deformability at different concentration of HbA1C in a rat model with type 2 diabetes mellitus in order to further explore the relationship between erythrocyte deformability and the concentration of HbA1C, and to determine the concentration of HbA1C at which erythrocyte deformability was first impaired. Methods: Six rats were picked up randomly from the experimental rats to be killed as basic control group, and then the rest of them were randomly divided into three groups, namely control group (42 rats), STZ-S group (50 rats) and STZ-M group (50 rats). The rats of control group were fed on standard diet, and those of another two groups were fed on fat-riched and high-energy diet. After eight weeks, it indicated Insulin Resistance was presented in the rats of STZ-S group and STZ-M group that they had a higher level of Fast Insulin (FINS) and a lower level of Insulin Sensitivity Index (ISI) compared to those of control group, and correspondingly they were regard as the rats of Insulin Resistance. Then the rats of Insulin Resistance were injected intraperitoneally with a low-dose streptozocin (30mg/kg) while those of control group were injected...
