Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between carotidintima-media thickness (IMT) and serum levels of highly-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and other risk factors in type 2 diabetic patients (T2DM).Methods: Sixty-one T2DM patients and twenty healthy individuals (group A) were enrolled in this study. The patients with T2DM were divided into two groups according to the average carotid IMT measurement: IMT < 0.9 mm (group B) and IMT≥ 0.9 mm (group C). The serum level of hs-CRP was determined by a highly sensitive ELISA and the average and largest carotid IMT were measured by a high resolution B-mode ultrasonography. We also evaluated patients' age, body mass index (BMI), diabetic duration and the serum levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein (HDI-C), low density lipoprotein (LDL-C), glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), fasting insulin (FINS), fasting serum glucose (FPG). Homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) was also performed. Results: The serum hs-CRP levels in both T2DM groups (group B and C) weresignificant increased compared to that in control group (group A) (P<0.01, P<0.01), 5.81 ± 2. 86,3.99±1.95,1.85+0. 21, respectively. Concurrently, patients with IMT ≥0.9 mm had a significantly higher serum hs-CRP levels than that of patient with...
