Sphincter of Oddi(SO)is the only way to control bile juice flowing out of bile tract. It is very important in filling gall bladder, discharging blie juice and maintaining normal pressure of bile tract system. Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction(SOD)is clinical common disease and frequently occurring illness. Therefore, clarify the mechanism of controlling motility of SO has a very important significance in understanding the pathogenesy, diagnosis and therapy of hepatcholepancreas diseases in clinic. In recent years, many research show interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC)or interstitial Cajal-like cells, the pacemaking cells of rhythm motility in gut, not only exist in gastrointestinal tract, but also distribute in the organs out of digestive tract, which have auto-rhythm movement too. In physiological condition, SO has the auto-rhythm motility. However, it has not been reported whether there are ICC in SO or not now.Enteric nervous system(ENS)has an important effect on regulating the motility of SO. Among them, there are many researches about cholinergic and adrenergic nerves modulating its movement. But there are few researches of nonadrenergic- noncholinergic (NANC)nerves, one of the main parts in ENS, acting SO. It has already been conformed that nitric oxide(NO)has a strong inhibitory effect on smooth muscle in gastrointestinal tract and ICC maybe mediate the action according to some reports. Physiological experiments show that NO may act as an inhibitory role in the control of porcine and human SO activity. It's still unknown, however, whether or not the inhibitory action is through ICC in SO. Furthermore, it's worth of discussing deeply whether or not it perhaps has a relationship with NO or ICC that cholecystokinin (CCK) modulate SO.Thereby, this research apply haematoxylin-eosin(HE)staining for paraffin-sections of the guinea-pig SO samples, immunocytochemistry staining for cryo-sections by the specific marker, c-Kit, of ICC, the specific antibody of CCK and NADPH-diaphorase(NADPH-d)...
