Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) is a member of the transforming growth factor- β (TGF-β) superfamily, and is a kind of multifunctional cell differentiation factor. BMP2 and BMP4 are two important members of BMP family, and have similar structure and function. During the development of embryo and the formation of tissue, they both take important roles. Both BMP2 and BMP4 can induce the development of bone and the differentiation of hemapoietic system.Comparing with BMP4, BMP2 has stronger activity to induce the formation of bone. BMP2 plays a key role in the regeneration of bone when it has been damaged. Just because of this function, BMP2 is very prospective in clinic use for speeding the healing of bone fracture and curing bone nonunion and bone default. As an inducing factor it has been used in the bone tissue engineering.Different from BMP2, BMP4 has an important role in the development of the hematopoietic system. As a important hematopoietic growth factor, BMP4...
