Objective To evaluate the application method and clinical value of intraoperative ultrasonography in locating lesions, observing internal echo characteristic , real-time guiding of the resection and grading cerebral glioma.Methods Eighty patients who were diagnosed with intracranial mass by CT or MRI were involved in our study (61 glioma, 4meningeoma, 3 angiocavernoma, 2 hypophysoma, 2 cerebral abscess, 5 brain metastases and 3 medulloblastoma). The patients with good condition had transcranial color-coded sonographic examination before operation regularly. The probe was isolated by sterile gum in the operation and put lightly on the surface of the brain. High frequency probe was used to locate exactly the shallow lesion and supply the best approach for the operator. Low frequency probe was used to explore the large or profound lesion. The location, scope, extent, character and adjacent tissue of the tumor were observed intra-operative. Residuals of tumor or hematoma were identified before the operation ending.
