| Objective: The research tried to assess the biocompatibility of the 9.9999K spun gold and tried to find out the feasibility of using it as a medical cosmetic material. Methods: We had chosen rabbits and embedded spun gold under their ears, monitored by ISO 10993-1.1997. The specimens were examined up to 3 days, 1, 2, 4 and 6 weeks by outside observation, immunoreaction's test, pathological slice observation and slices observed by electron microscope. Results: Compared with stainless steel and titanium, our findings suggested that embedding the spun gold under the skin will only induce short time inflammation reactions in early stage, which is not because of infection. The inflammation will fade away within two weeks. The spun gold was stabilized in the tissue and no necroses occurred. It suggested that the spun gold had a very good biocompatibility. Fibers'hyperplasia at the embedding position could fill the tissue at a certain extent. The embedding position was very soft and you could hardly feel the spun gold. Conclusions: Our studies had provided mach basic study information for a new medical material to be used in clinic, which is meaningful and useful. |
