Objective: To determine plasma apolipoprotein M (apoM) levels in patients suffered from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and to investigate the correlation between apoM and other parameters. Methods: 73 T2DM and 48 normal volunteers were subjected into the present study. Plasma apoM levels were determined by dot-blotting analyses. Fasting plasma levels of insulin, leptin, apolipoprotein AI (apoAI), apolipoprotein B (apoB), lipoprotein (a) Lp(a), total triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC) , high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) were determined by automatic immunoephelometry and enzymatic methods or ELISA methods at the clinical routing laboratory of the third affiliated hospital of Suzhou University. Results: Plasma apoM concentrations in T2DM patients were significantly increased compared to normal volunteers (t=-4.095, p < 0.001). It is positively correlated to apoAI (r=0.2321, p = 0.0466),negatively correlated to Lp(a) (r=-0.3385,p=0.0030)and age(r=0.2420, P=0.0352).Conclusion: Plasma apoM levels are positively correlated to the anti- atherogenic factors and negatively correlated to the atherogenic factors in type 2 diabetic mellitus. Inverse relationship of apoM with Lp(a) and positive...
