Calcium hudroxide (Ca(OH)2) has been considered as one of the best root canal dressings due to its good antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility. As a root canal dressing, the antimicrobial activity of calcium hydroxide, given by the high pH, is related to the release of Ca2+ and OH- ions. And most of the endodontopathogens are unable to survive in the highly alkaline environment. The vehicle is a substance which is added into calcium hydroxide to form a paste. It can influence the antimicrobial activity of calium hydroxide by affecting the velocity of ionic dissociation and diffusing into dental tubules. In this research, we compared three types of vehicles which were usually being used in clinical. In order to give a reference to clinical application, we evaluated the antimicrobial activity with antibiotic susceptibility test and root canal disinfection test and the intracanal placement of calcium hydroxide mixed with different vehicles.Part I : Antibiotic susceptibility test[Materials and Methods] Calcium hydroxide mixed with different vehicles and various concentrations were tested as follows: (1) physiological saline(control group); (2) Ca(OH)2 + physiological saline(0.75 g/ml); (3)...
