Background and objectiveMore than 350 million people worldwide have chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Effective treatments are required to prevent progression of chronic hepatitis B to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and death. Treatment with interferon alfa requires parenteral administration and can cause side effects. Lamivudine suppresses HBV replication and improves histologic liver findings. However, lamivudine resistance has been reported in up to 32 percent of patients after one year of therapy and in 66 percent after four years. Therefore, well-tolerated antiviral agents that provide clinical benefit without inducing resistance are needed to manage chronic hepatitis B. In this study, we assigned 70 patients with chronic hepatitis B to characterize the virologic and sera response to adefovir, and to investigate the relationship between HBV genotype ,the T lymphocyte subset of peripheral blood and therapeutic efficacy of adefovir treatment.MethodsTotally 70 patients with HBeAg-positive Chronic Hepatitis B weretreated with adefovir dipivoxil 10mg/day for 48 weeks.HBV genotype was tested by real-time PCR. The T lymphocyte subset of peripheral blood was analyzed by FCM before and after treatment for 12 weeks and 24 weeks .And in a long time we assessed the HBV markers, HBV-DNA and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. The data were analyzed with SPSS software.ResultsFinally 65 patients finished their visitation. (1)A virological response,as defined by HBV-DNA below the cut off by PCR, was observed in 23...
