Lumbar Discography And Intradiscal Compressive Injection Cure Lumbar Disc Herniation

Objective: many doctors have reported spontaneous shrink and absorption of lumbar disc herniation. The therapy in curing it is more conservative now. Orthopaedics doctors have the feeling, that many patients had improvement after lumbar discography. Dr. Jitian et al find most of them who had improvement, when they were take lumbar discography, the contrast medium get into spinal canal, and most of their lumbar disc had degeneration. Dr. Jitian et al think this phenomenon is related to the formation of lumbar disc herniation's leak, and reported introdiscal compressive injection in 1991. Our hospital applied this therapy in 2003. This article will introduce and discuss the theory, clinical application and appropriate case of lumbar discography and intradiscal compressive injection in curing lumbar disc herniation. Method: we have treated 158 cases lumbar disc herniation with intradiscal compressive injection, and evaluate the curing effects through grade the score of the patients before operation and after operation according to JOA system (the patients were followed up 1～20 months, 82 cases were followed up more than 3 month. The former 68 cases were injected with only normal Saline, 90 cases were injected by admixture of normal Saline, prednisolone and dolicaine),- and investigate the complications, MR images expression, lumbar discography, the variations of MR images.
