Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum adiponectin level and sex, the types of obesity, fasting blood glucose, lipids, insulin resistance in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Methods:A total of 43 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus patients from out-patient of QiLu and JiGang Hospital in 2005-2006 and 36 non-diabetic volunteers from medical examination center were recruited in this study. The 43 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus patients according to World Health Organization criteria were classified into two groups: non-obese type 2 diabetics (20 cases, BMI<25kg/m~2) and obese type 2 diabetics (23 cases, BMI≥25kg/m~2) .Another two groups: 17 cases of normal subjects, 19 cases of obese subjects. Fasting plasma glucose, lipids, fasting insulin and adiponectin were measured. Body mass index, waist hip rate and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) were calculated. The correlation of serum adiponectin and sex, age, BMI, WHR, FPG, lipids, FINS , HOMA-IR were analyzed. Descriptive statistics are presented as mean ± standard deviation(SD) for variables with a normal distribution. Serum insulin and HOMA-IR which submit abnormal distribution were analyzed after logarithmic transformation. Student's t-test was used to compare between data of two groups, analysis of variance(ANOVA) was used to compare data of all groups, and Student-Newman-Keuls(SNK) was used to compare between means. Univariate and stepwise mulitiple linear regression analysis were performed to identify independent factors affecting adiponectin and to estimate the final predictors of their variability. A value of P<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. All data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 statistical process.
