Leontice kiangnanensis R.L.Chiu is one of folk Chinese medicine in common use with rhizome, which mainly distribute to the north-western of province of Zhe Jiang and southern of province of An Hui.In this dissertation studies on chemical constitutes of the rhizome of Leontice kiangnanensis are presented firstly. 14 compounds were isolated from the extraction of rhizome of Leontice kiangnanensis, Among them, 10 compounds structures were identified on the ground of physical and chemical method and spectrum data. The 10 compounds respectively are N-Methylcystisine (1), Lupanine(2), Camoensine(3),Tetrahydrorombif oline(4), Podophyllotoxin(5), Daucosterol(6), Chikusetsu saponin-1(7), β-sitosterol(8), Scabioside B (9), Oleanolic acid (10). 2 and 4 are isolated from the genus for the first time. The alcohol extract decreases the paw edema significantly in rat adjuvant arthritis test. The results of the pharmacological experiments show that the alcohol extract has remarked anti-inflammatory activity.
