Objective we used computerized imaging analysis to compare the collagen content of detusor specimenx between patients affected with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and asymptmomatic controls. Investigate detrusor of bladder collagen content change in benign prostatic hyperplasia. Myotility of detrusor and m lower urinary tract symptom (LUTS) possibly correlate with detrusor of bladder collagen fibers content. Methods In our study we enrolled 37 patients (mean68. 2age , range 62-78 ,) with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) undergoing suprapubic prostatectomy, we also enrolled 19 patients(mean 65.4 age ,range 60-76 ) undergoing transurethral resection of the bladder for primitive singular Ta bladder cancer, with no significant urinary symptoms, as the control. Two biopsy specimens of every experiment group and control group had obtained anterior wall of urinary bladder. Specimens were fixed in 4% phosphate buffered formalin, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in paraffin. Sections obtained were stained first with hematoxylin and eosin for a gross morphological evaluation, and with Masson stained for collagen and noncollagen fibers. Computerized morphometric analysis of the stained sections was performed with an image analysis system, and a percentage...
