Object The aim of the present study is to investigate the influence of the Tongxinluo Capsule on regional cerebral blood flow with 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain perfusion imaging, and observe the curative effect of the Tongxinluo Capsule with combining with the scores of nervous functional deficiency and Barthel index, and accordingly evaluate the Tongxinluo Capsule's clinical efficacy and the effect for long-term quality of life in patients with cerebral infarction.Materials and Methods 60 patients with cerebral infarction who fulfilled the criteria of our study were enrolled and were divided into two groups: elemental drugs treated group (ET group, n=31) and Tongxinluo treated group (TT group, n=29) randomly. At the first stage, two groups were all treated with 0.9% Nacl 250ml and citicoline 1.0g intravenously qd for two weeks and Piracetam 0.8g tid orally for four weeks, besides this, TT group were given four Tongxinluo capsules tid respectively for four weeks; at the second stage, two groups were all treated with Piracetam 0.8g tid orally for eight weeks. Besides this, TT group were given four Tongxinluo capsules tid respectively for eight weeks. In each group, 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain perfusion imaging, the scores of nervous deficiency and Barthel index was performed before and after drug therapy under the same condition, and regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) changes were compared and analyzed with visual and semi-quantitative methods; at the same time the scores of nervous functional deficiency and Barthel index was also analyzed.Results After treatment, there was significant differential between the rCBF of BT group and that of TT group (t=3.086, P<0.01) ,rCBF of TT group was higher than that of BT group (0.71 vs 0.60) .In TT group, posttreatment rCBF was higher than the pretreatment level (0.71 vs 0.54), the change is significant (t=5.175, P<0.01) . In addition, there was marked differential between the scores of nervous functional deficiency and Barthel index of pretreatment and that of posttreatment in TT group.Conclusion1.99mTc-ECD SPECT brain perfusion imaging is a sensitive marker of disease progression in cerebral infarction, and can serve as a useful method for evaluating the effectiveness of drug therapy.2.Tongxinluo capsule can improve the rCBF of cerebral infarction effectually.3. Tongxinluo capsule can lessen the neurological symptom of cerebral infarction, decrease the level of deformity, and improve the long-term quality of life in patientswith acute cerebral infarction.
