Objective To investigate the role of PCNA, PTTG, C-myc and p53 protein on tumor invasiveness , cell proliferation and recurrence in human pituitary adenoma. Methods Immunohistochemical techniques were used to detect the expression of PCNA, PTTG, C-myc and p53 in cases of invasive, non-invasive and recurrent pituitary adenomas.Result The expression of PCNA and PTTG increased significantly in invasive pituitary adenomas group and recurrent group against non-invasive group, P<0.05, but no significant difference of expression of PCNA and PTTG was found between recurrent and invasive pituitary adenoma groups, P>0.05. PCNA connects with PTTG closely in pituitary adenoma, r=0.316, P<0.05. For the expression of C-myc, no significant difference was found between each group, P>0.05. No significant difference of expression of p53 was found between invasive and non-invasive pituitary adenoma groups, P>0.05.Conclusion The expression of PCNA and PTTG maybe correlates closely with the invasiveness , cell proliferation and recurrence in human pituitary adenoma, PCNA and PTTG can take effect mutually and promote the process during the invasiveness in the pituitary adenoma, whereas C-myc and p53 are not ideal markers of tumor invasiveness mightly.
