Objective: To probe the relationship between endotoxemia-induced cerebral vasospasm and the plasma ET-1 level, ET-1 innervation on cerebral arteries in endotoxemia rats, and to provide a morphological data for profoundly illuminating the pathogensis of endotoxemia-induced cerebral vasospasm. Methods: 96 Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group and experimental group(LPS-pretreated group), the latter was subdivided into 3,6,12,24 and 48-hour group. To determine the changes of circulating levels of ET-1 as well as the ET-1 immunoreactive positive fibres on cerebral arteries in control group and experimental groups, with radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique the plasma concentration of ET-1 was determined, and the density of ET-1 nerve fibres on cerebral arteries was observed by immunohistochemical technique ABC. Results: (1) Administration of LPS caused up-regulation of ET-1 in plasma. The plasma concentrations of ET-1 of 3h,6h and 12h LPS-pretreated groups were found to be much higher than that of control group(P<0.05). Whereas it was low at 24h and 48h LPS-pretreated groups, almost equal to that of control group(P>0.05); (2) The ET-1 immunoreactive positive fibres, brown color and line-shaped, were observed on anterior cerebral artery(ACA), middle cerebral artery(MCA),posterior cerebral...
