PurposeTo study the expression and the localization of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and leptin in placenta from normal pregnancy and fetal growth restriction (FGR).MethodsPlacental samples obtained from 30 women were divided into 2 groups, FGR group (n=15) and control group (n=15). Tissue samples were fixed in formalin, embedded in paraffin and processed for routine histological examination and immunohistochemical identification of LIF and Leptin expression.Results1.FGR tissue sections compared with control group, showed a poor development on placental villus, villous capillaries were not dilated, hyperplasia of the cytotrophoblasts increased the thickness of vasculosyncytial membrane.2.LIF mainly expressed in placenta villous trophoblasts and fetal vasular endothelium; Leptin expressed on the placenta villous syncytiotrophoblast.
