Objective: The paper tries to study the protective effects of Xiao Shuan Oral liquid (XSOL) on acute cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injuries in rats in order to provide experimental proofs for its clinical practices.Method: 50 normal Wistar rats were randomly divided into: sham-operation group, ischemia-reperfusion (IR)group, XSOL of a small dose group (2.4 g/kg), XSOL of a big dose group (9.6 g/kg), Nimodipine (Nim) group (1.0 g/kg ). There were 10 rats in each group. The models of acute incomplete cerebral ischemia-reperfusion were established in rats. At 24h after reperfusion for 2h, the change of the cerebral water content, the brain vascular permeability and the cerebral index were measured. At the same time, the changes of pathomorphology in brain tissue were observed. The content changes of MDA,SOD,GSH-px,NO,Glu and Asp in brain tissue were observed at 24h after reperfusion for 2h.Results: Compared with IR group , XSOL could significantly decrease the cerebral water content, the cerebral index, the brain vascular permeability in rats of acute incomplete brain ischemia-reperfusion (P<0.01,P<0.05). Cerebral tissue morphology showed that neuronic damage of rats subjected to acute incomplete brain ischemia-reperfusion was ameliorated following administration of XSOL (2.4, 9.6g/kg). Compared with IR group , XSOL could significantly decrease the content of MDA and NO in brain tissue(P<0.01,P<0.05)and increase SOD,GSH-px activity. The levels of cerebral Glu,Asp were cut down(P<0.01,P<0.05).Conclusion: XSOL shows protective effects on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion. The mechanism may be related to improving neuronal protection and anti-oxyradical effects, decreasing the content of NO,EAA incerebral ischemia-reperfusion brain for reducing its toxicity.
