Clinical Research On Diagnosis And Surgical Treatment Of Spinal Ependymoma

Objective To investigate the diagnosis and the surgicaltreatment of spinal ependymoma.Methods The clinical data of 11 cases of spinal ependymomawere respectively analysed, including clinical demonstrations,imaging test, operative removing grade and clinical effect. And areview of relevant literature was conducted.Results In our study sample of 11 cases, 2 cases hadcervico-thoracic tumors, 2 had thoracic tumors, 1 hadthoraco-lunbar tumors, 5 had lumbal tumors, 1 had lumbo-sacraltumors. Total surgical resection were done in 9 cases ,subtotalresection in 2cases.Conclusions The most reliable method for diagnosis of spinal ependymoma is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Microsurgical treatment is the first choice for those patients with spinal ependymoma, most tumors could be totally removed by microsurgical operation. Postoperatively radiological therapy is nonsense to the patients.
