Objective: to study the effort of the Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) on lipid metabolism and on the levels of leptin in obesity in rats. Methods: 75 normal SD rats whose weight was between 180g and 200g were divided into five groups, normal control group, model control group , low MCP fed group at the dose of 100mg/(kg·d), moderate MCP fed group at the dose of 400mg/(kg·d),and high MCP fed group at the dose of 800mg/(kg·d). Body weight of rats, blood cholesterol levels, LDL, HDL, serum lipid, leptin levels were measured. Results: After fed with MCP, the level of TC, TG and the weight of the experimental rats were decreased in the rats of 800, 1600, 2400 mg/(kg·d) groups. Compared with model group, the ratio of the liver to the weight in the middle and high dose groups were significantly lower. The level of LDL of 800, 1600, 2400 mg/(kg·d) groups had no difference compared with model group. There were no different changes of activities of leptinin the dose groups compared with high-fat group. Conclusion: The results suggest that MCP can decrease body weight and serum lipid in obese rats.
