[Objective] To investigate the relationship between expression ofβ-catenin and MMP - 7 and biologic behavior in kidney clear cell a.[Materials and Methods] Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect expression ofβ- catenin and MMP - 7 in 50 cases of kidney clear cell carcinomas and 16 cases of nomal renal tissue.[Results] The ratio of abnormal expression ofβ- catwas 92% in kidneycellcarcinomas. Abnormal expression ofβ- catenin was associated with histological grade, diameter of tumor, clinical stage, and invasion of kidney cell carcinomas. The ratio of expression of MMP - 7 was 88% in tumor. The expression of MMP - 7 was associated with clinical stage, invasion, and diameter of tumor. Aberrantβ- catenin expression was associated with MMP - 7 positive expression in kidney clear cell carcinomas (p < 0. 01,) .[Conclusion] Expression ofβ- catenin and MMP - 7 may play an important role in the progression of kidney cell carcinoma and serve as an independent factor of prognosis. Simultaneous detect expression ofβ-catenin and MMP - 7 may be useful for the prediction of treatment and p rognosis in kidney clear cell carcinoma.
