Objective: Compared to the humman atherosclerosis obliterans(ASO),A Rabbit ischemicHind Limb Model was made manufacture to established a constinuous and stable animal model. Methods: A total of 10 male New Zealand white rabbits weighted 3.0~3.5Kg wasselected.A longitudinal incision was performed in the left hind limb ,extended inferiorly from the inguinal ligament to a point proximal to the patella , the arteria iliaca externa and the femoral artery were resectted along their entire length ;all branches of the femoral artery were also resected , which made manufacture the ischemic hind limb model in rabbits. The severity of the ischemia and the alternation of the hindlimb in each rabbit were evaluated regularly until postoperative 6 weeks.Result : The rabbit ischemic hind limb appeared the atrophy and necrosis of the muscle, the ulcer of ill limb, the longer and thicker of toe after a week postoperatively . The scan of concentration sisotope indicated the blood pressure of the left limb was largely decreased postoperatively. The blood flow rate of two hind limbs was descended ( L/R ) ( P<0.05 ) .The internal iliac angiography demonstrated minimal collaterals number ratio in two hind limbs ( L/R ) was increased from 1.00±0.52 to 3.00±0.40 postoperatively ( P<0.05 ) . Postoperative 6 weeks, histologic study of the hind limb muscle showed the number of fiber were lower and smaller, minimal collateral number was increased. Conclusion: The rabbit ischemic hind limb model was made manufacture successfully. Theresult of experiments was similar to the clinical symptom of ASO patients. The result of the experiments was to established a constinuous and stable animal model.
