Objectives: To study the alteration of the expression of HSP27 in the liver tissue of SD rats in the early phase of burn and the effects of rhubarb, and discuss the probable mechanism and protective effect of rhubarb for the rats liver tissue after burn.Method: We took 75 healthy SD rats (provided by kunming Medical college) to set up burned models, which were divided randomly into control group, burned group and treatment group. We took the liver tissue sample seperately after 3,6,12,24,48,72 hs and 5 ds post burn injury, with abdominal anesthesia by Ketalar. In the treatment group, we carried out intragastric administration with rhubarb 5 mins after burn injury, and consecutively every 12 hs. We examined and analyzed the expression of HSP27 in the liver tissues of each group with the methods of immunohistochemistry, and at the same time we observed the pathological changes of the liver tissues of each groups.Result: In the burned group, the expression of HSP27 was higher than the one in control group at equal and parallel time(P<0.05), 3h post burn injury HSP27 was expressed in a small amount, 6-12h post burn injury the expression was increased, 24-48h post injury the increase was obvious and 72h post injury it reached the peak. While the expression of HSP27 decreased obviously 5ds post burn injury. In the treatment group, the expression was higher than the one in the burned group(P<0.05), at equal and parallel time. In pathological observation, the control group manifested the intact liver tissue formation, the burned group showed obvious liver tissue injury in the early phase of burn injury, while the treatment group showed much less severe injury than the burned group. Conclusion: In the early phase of severe burn injury, the liver tissue injury is very severe. If the Chinese traditional herb rhubarb were administered early, it would come to relieve the damage of the liver tissue post burn injury, and protect hepatic cells. While it's of vital significance in cytoprotective action that it resists the apoptosis of the liver tissue. It may be one of the vital mechanisms of rhubarb protecting hepatic cells, that rhubarb increases the expression of HSP27 in the liver tissue of SD rats in the early phase of burn injury.
