Objective To investigate the relation of EBV and HCMV and hypertrophy of tonsillaradenoids of children in Qingdao. Methods Sixty-seven patients with hypertrophy of tonsillar adenoids and twenty-sixpatients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) were performedoperation and the tonsil and adenoil were resected. Specimens was embedded by the paraffin.Gene DNA of EBV and HCMV in these tonsils and adenoids were detected by polymerasechain reaction (PCR).Results A total of 67 hypertrophy of tonsillar adenoids of children in tonsil and adenoidanalysed by PCR, the detected positive EBV were 15 cases (22.39%)in tonsil and 26cases(38.81%) in adenoid, the difference was significant in the two tissues(P<0.05). The detectedpositive HCMV were 11 cases (16.42%)in tonsil and 9 cases (13.43%) in adenoid, thedifference was not significant in the two tissues(P>0.05). The difference was not significantin EBV and HCMV in tonsil(P>0.05),however, the difference was significant in adenoid(P<0.01).EBV were found in hypertrophy of tonsillar adenoids of children were 15 cases(22.39%), and in OSAHS were 1(3.85%), the difference was significant(P<0.05). HCMVwere found in hypertrophy of tonsillar adenoids of children were 11 cases (13.43%), andin OSAHS were 0 cases, the difference was significant(P<0.05).Conclusion EBV and HCMV can be detected in hypertrophy of tonsillar adenoids ofchildren.
