Objective To investigate the expression of Elf-1, Survivin, Ki-67 and their clinicalsignificance in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods The expression ofElf-1, Survivin, Ki-67 was detected immunohistochemistrically by PV-9000 methodwith tissue chip contains 72 cases of non-small-ceU lung cancer. Results 1. Elf-1was mainly expressed in nucleus and occasionlly expressed in cytoplasm. Positivestaining for Elf-1was obtained in 53 cases in non-small-cell lung cancer. The expressiveintensity of Elf-1 was significant among histopathological groups (x~2=8.274, P=0.013);There was significance both between gradeâ… andâ…¡,â…¢andâ… (P=0.046,0.013), but not betweenâ…¡andâ…¢(P=0.299). 2. Survivin was mainly expressed incytoplasm and occasionally expressed in uncleus. Positive staining for Survivin wasobtained in 44 cases in NSCLC. The expressive intensity of Survivin was significantamong histopathological groups (x~2=8.513, P=0.012); There was significance bothbetween gradeâ… andâ…¡,â…¢andâ… (P=0.010, 0.037), but not betweenâ…¡andâ…¢(P=0.959). 3. Among the different clinical stage groups, the expressive intensity of Elf-1and Survivin were both significantly different (x~2=24.127, P=0.000; x~2=20.570,P=0.000); The intensity of Elf-1 and Survivin were also significantly higher in thegroup with lymph node metastasis than that in the group without lymph node metastasis(Z=-3.316, P=0.001; Z=-5.125, P=0.000);. The expressive intensity of Elf-1 orSurvivin was not related to age,gender,tumor size and histological type groups (P>0.05). 4. Ki-67 index (KI) was 29.84%±20.06% in 72 cases of NSCLC. There was nosignificance between squamous cell carcinoma (28.70%±19.18%) and adenocarcinomagroup(31.28%±21.32% ) (P=0.165).The KI of caner cells increased following themalignancy (F=28.356; P=0.000). The KI was higher in positive lymph node group(F=-3.477, P=0.001), and also was higher both in stageâ…¢andâ…¡than that instageâ… (F=8.573,P=0.002; F=3.124, P=0.035). 5. Positive correlation was foundbetween the expressive intensity of Elf-1 and Survivin (r=0.255, P=0.012),between Elf-1 and KI (r_s=0.526, P=0.000), and also between Survinvin and KI (r_s=0.530, P=0.000). Conclusions: 1. The expressive intensity of both Elf-1 and Survivinhas relations to histopathological gradings, clinical staging and lymph node metastasis inNSCLC. 2. The expressive intensity of Elf-1 or Survivin is not related to age,gender, tumor size and histological type. 3. The KI has relation to histopathological gradings,clinical staging and lymph node metastasis. 4. Positive correlation is all found betweenElf-1 and Survivin, Elf-land ki-67, Survivin and ki-67, which reveals that they maycoordinate in the development and metastasis of NSCLC. 5. United detecting theexpression of Elf-1, Survivin and ki-67 may be served as the important parameters ofevaluating malignancy, invasion and metastasis in NSCLC.
