Objective: Treat chronic venous ulceration of the leg by subfascialendoscopic perforator vein surgery (SEPS); Assess the treatment resultsby comparing the symptoms of the leg before and after the surgery, analyze its symptoms during the surgery, its complications after thesurgery and the duration of hospital treatment.Methods:1. Demonstrate the process of SEPS and that of traditional Linton, and learn the features of SEPS.2. Contrast the symptoms before and after the surgery and assessthe results on the basis of the 15 SEPS operations on 18 legs which ourdepartment conducted between June 2005 and June 2006.3. Contrast the results of SEPS and traditional Linton on chronicvenous ulceration of the leg, the symptoms during and after the operationand the durations of hospital treatment.Results:1. The symptoms of the 18 legs on which our research groupconducted SEPS operations: except their pigmentations, all wasobviously improved (P<0.01).2. The cicatrisation rate of SEPS is 94.4%, and its recrudesce rate is5.6%. SEPS is particularly effective in the treatment of patients.3. There is not complications about recrudesce of superficial vein and their damnification of saphenous nerves and so on. Yet the cutinfection rate is 5.6%,SEPS has a great advantage over Linton.4. A SEPS operation takes 29±6.33 (15—40) minutes, and thehemorrhage during the surgery is 6.94±1.63 (5—10) ml. There are greatadvantage over Linton.5. The durations of hospitalization of SEPS operations arerespectively 9.87±3.90. The cicatrisation of ulceration lasts respectively22.37±5.33, There are great advantage over Linton.(P<0.01).Conclusions:1. SEPS is now a simple and effective method of treating chronicvenous ulceration of the leg.2. SEPS takes less time, leaves a smaller cut, causes less bleedingand complication, and demands a shorter duration of hospitalization.SEPS is particularly effective in the treatment of patients classified intoC5 and C6 in CEAP.3. The comprehensive treatment of the deep, shallow andperforating systems are neccessey to the treatment of chronic venousulceration of the leg.4. SEPS can greatly improve the symptoms of chronic venousulceration of the leg, yet as a new minimally invasive method of surgery, the technique has been app;ied very well in the treatment of chronicvenous ulceration of the leg.
