Objective:To study the expressions and significance ofα-catenin,β-catenin and E-cadherin in oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods:The expressions ofα-catenin,β-catenin and E-cadherin were detected by the immunohistochemical technique(S-P method)in 60 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma. Results:The abnormal expression rates ofβ-cat.β-cat and E-cad were 45%,50%and 53.33% respectively. The expression ofα-cat was correlated with lymphatic metastasis, the time of TNM and differentiation(u values were 2.410,2.709 and 2.677 respectively and P values were 0.016,0.007 and 0.007 respectively). The expression ofβ-cat was correlated with lymphatic metastasis, the time of TNM and differentiation u values were 2.715,2.208 and 2.737 respectively and P values were 0.007,0.027 and 0.006 respectively). The expression of E-cad was correlated with lymphatic metastasis, the time of TNM and differentiation(u values were 2.479,2.589 and 3.744 respectively and P values were 0.013,0.010 and 0.000 respectively). The differences of expression among E-cad,α-cat andβ-cat in oral squamous cell carcinoma were not significant(x~2 values were 2.37 and 1.25 respectively and P values were 0.130 and 0.320 respectively).Conclution:The abnormal expressions ofα-cat,β-cat and E-cad are related to occurrence and development of oral squamous cell carcinoma. They may serve as valuable indication for biolonical behavior and prognosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
