Objective: To asses the relation and clinical significance between the expression of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ- catenin and the biological behavier of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ- catenin in 75 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. Results: Expression of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ- catenin in all normal mucosa of bladder was normal. The abnormal expression rate of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ- catenin in transitional cell carcinoma of urinary bladder were 46.7%,54.7%,45.3%,44.0% respectively. The abnormal expression rate of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ- catenin 12.5%,58.3%,89.5%, 21.9%,66.7%,94.7%, 15.0%,54.2%,84.2%, 31.3%,41.7%,52.6%, in G1,G2,G3 of BTCC and were 27.3%,30.3%,18.2%,36.4%, 61.9%,73.8%,66.7%,54.8% in T1,T2-T4 tumors. 41 cases were followed,The recurrence rate in normal expression of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ-catenin was 18.2%,12.5%,23.3%,47.6%,respectively. The recurrence rate in abnormal expression of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin γ-catenin was 61.3%,60.6% ,64.3%,55.0%,respectively.The abnormal expression rate of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin correlated with both increased grade, stage and recurrence. Conclusions: The abnormal expression of E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin is closely related to the recurrence and malignant progression of bladder transitional cell carcinoma . E-cadherin α-catenin β- catenin could be used as an useful molecular marker for predicting the progression recurrence and prognosis of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
