Object: To evaluate the role of the Matrix metalloproteinases-1,-3,-9(MMP-1,-3,-9)and Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1(TIMP-1)in the formation of the pericystic layers of hepatic hydatid cyst.Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to observed the expression of MMP-1,MMP–3,MMP -9 and TIMP-1 in 30pericystic layers of hepatic hydatid cystsResults: A special delaminated expression was observed in the pericystic layer of hepatic hydatid cysts. expressions of the MMP-1,MMP–3,MMP -9 and TIMP-1 in the ectocyst layer near parasite 6.67%,10.00%,16.67%,13.30% were lower than those in the exo-adventitia layer near hepatic parenchyma 83.30%,80.00%,70.00%,90.00% (P<0.01, P<0.01).Conclusion: The fibrosis of hepatic parenchyma ,the crushed Glission system and hepatic vein system ,an inflammatory response near pericystic layer of hepatic hydatid cyst is reason for the formation of exo-adventitia of hepatic hydatid cyst . The expressions of MMP-1,MMP–3,MMP -9 and TIMP-1 in exo-adventitia and ectocyst layer of hepatic hydatid cyst demonstrates the important role of MMP-1,MMP–3,MMP -9 and TIMP-1 in the formative process of the fibrosis near ectocyst of hepatic hydatid cyst.
