Objective: To develop an animal model of controllablemyocardial ischemia in mini swine.Method: Thoracotomy and pericardiectomy were performed in 10mini swine. A home-made hydraulic occluder was then implantedaround the oblique marginal artery. Selective coronaryangiography, pressure-EKG test, CCBF and pathologicalexamination were performed after surgery to evaluate the degreeof stenosis. We changed the electrocardiogram lead and improvedthe manner of skin treatment for getting satisfactory exerciseelectrocardiogram of mini swine.Result: Pressure induced EKG change of ischemia could be foundin all subjects. Selective coronary angiography demonstrateda significant reduction in myocardial blood flow in the obliquemarginal artery after hydraulic occluder was inflated.Simultaneously, CCBF of the hazardous zone was obviouslydecreased (p<0.05). There was no evidence of myocardialinfarction. We got a satisfactory exercise electrocardiogramof mini swine by using our improved electrocardiogram lead andskin treatment.Conclusion: the home-made hydraulic occluder is applicable to make an animal model of controllable myocardial ischemia. Itmay create an important approach in research of cardiacrehabilitation.
