Objective To investigate the expression and significance of cyclinD1 and p21WAF1 in colorectal carcinoma. Methods Flow Cytometry was used to detect the expressions of cyclinD1 and p21WAF1 in the processes of normal colorectal mucosae epithelium, lesion precancerous, colorectal carcinoma and corresponding cancer-adjacent tissue. Results The expressions of cyclinD1 in colorectal carcinoma, lesion precancerous and corresponding cancer-adjacent tissue were significantly higher than those of normal colorectal mucosae epithelium, (P<0.05), and the expressions of p21WAF1 in colorectal carcinoma were significantly lower than those of normal colorectal mucosae epithelium, lesion precancerous and corresponding cancer-adjacent tissue (P<0.01). The marked negative correlation was shown between the expressions of cyclinD1 and p21WAF1 in the process of colorectal canceration(P<0.01). The expressions of cyclinD1 and p21WAF1 were correlated closely with the metastasis of lymph node, the depth of invasion and the differentiation of colorectal carcinoma. Heteroploid incidence rate of colorectal carcinoma were significantly higher than those of normal colorectal mucosae epithelium, lesion precancerous and corresponding cancer-adjacent tissue(P<0.01).Conclusions Both cyclinD1 and p21WAF1 play an important role in the development of colorectal carcinoma. So cyclinD1 and p21WAF1 might be used as important molecular markers in early diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
