Objective: To evaluate the impact of Traditonal Chinese Medicine syndromes on percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) through investigating coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with the syndrome before and after intervention in Fuzhou and its peripheral regions. Methods: The patient' s syndromes and symptom scores were investigated in the day before PCI. and then the above indices were investigated again 7 days after PCI. Finally through statistic analysis, to understand the syndrome distribution of Fuzhou and its peripheral regions, to compare the syndromes and symptom scores before and after PCI, to explore syndrome evolution regularity, and to explore the differences between men and women one step furtherResults: 1st, syndromes distribution of CHD in Fuzhou and its peripheral regions is following:Stagnation of heart-blood 52.6% (51/97), Stagnation of phlegm in heart 23.7% (23/97), deificiency of both qi and yin 13.4% (13/97), deificiency of yang-qi 7.2% (7/97),other syndromes 3.1% (3/97). Stagnation of phlegm in heart which has higher proportion than other statistics. 2nd, the changes of Stagnation of heart-blood (P〈0.01),Stagnation of phlegm in heart (P〈0.05). deificiency of both qi and yin (P〈0.05),deificiency of yang-qi (P〈0.05) before and after intervention were significantly different, the patients' syndromes after intervention changed from the excess syndrome of Stagnation of heart-blood, phlegm retention to the deficiency syndromes of deificiency of both qi and yin, deificiency of yang-qi. After intervention, the acute symptoms in patients such as chest pain (P〈0.01) ,Chest tightness (P〈0.01),palpitation (P〈0.01), shortness of breath (P〈0.01) were rapidly relieved. But fatigue (P〉0.05), chills and cold of the extremities (P〉0.05), lassitude in loin and legs (P〉0.05), spontaneous perspiration (P〉0.05), insomnia (P〉0.05) did not change significantly. 3rd, the difference of syndromes before and after PCI between men and women: Stagnation of heart-blood, Stagnation of phlegm in heart, deificiency of both qi and yin, deificiency of yang-Qi were no significantly different (P〉0.05); the changes of female total symptom scores were more than that of male (P〈0.01). Chest pain (P〈0.01) is significantly different in symptoms between men and women, but chest tightness, shortness of breath, palpitations, fatigue and weak, chills and cold of the extremities, lassitude in loin and legs, spontaneous perspiration, insomnia are no significantly different between men, and women (P〉0.05).Conclusion: Traditonal Chinese Medicine syndromes change before and after PCI and the syndrome evolution regularity transfers from the excess syndrome to the deficiency syndrome. The syndromes of men and women before and after PCI are no significantly different, but female symptoms improve more significantly than male.
