Study Of The Effectiveness And Influencing Factors Of The Methadone Maintenance Treatment Of Heroin Addicts

Objective: To evaluate the changed of drug use and illegal criminal and sexual behavior and family-society function et al among heroin addicts who after entered community methadone maintenance treatment clinic in Urumqi city, and explore the influencing factors of compliance, to provide evidence of science for better carry out this task infuture. Methods: 170 heroin addicts were interviewed of questionnaire about demographic features, drug behavior, sexual behavior et al entered methadone maintenance treatment, and follow-up interviews were conducted 6 months (mean) after the frist interview. Kaplan-Meier methods was used for retention of analyses, Cox was used for retention analyses of participants. Results: The percentage of participants in sharing needles and syringes in the pasted three months declined from 44.07% at baseline to 25.42% at 6 months follow-up, heroin use from an average of (28.40±2.07) days per month at baseline to (1.90±1.10) day per month at 6 months. 44% of 170 patiens self-reported no use of heroin during follow-up. The average number of days of illicit injecting reduced from 25.7 to 10.8.An increase from 32.98% employed before treatment to 47.87% after 6 months. Treatment satifaction rates was increased, but it was not significant (P>0.05). By cox analysis, the influencing factors, age at admission (RR=0.918, P=0.000),nation (RR=S.230, P=0.000),drug use of time (RR=1 .089, P=0.020),attend treatment of frequency of abstinent in the past (RR=1.043, P=0.033),handle of frequency by police in the past (RR=1.139, P=0.000),polydrug use (RR=1.230, P=0.041),support treatment of family member (RR=0.467, P=0.028),surrounding friend of drug user (RR=2.635, P=0.000),everyday convenience to come clinic (RR=0.783, P=0.015),average dose of methadone ever day (RR=0.965, P=0.000)and participation purpose of treatment(RR=1.139, P=0.000). Conclusion: methadone maintenance treatment was effective in reducing high use behavior,sexual behavior,crime,improving family and society function.Had great importance to the compliance of methadone maintenance treatment,measures of interfere should be positively adopt in future,to extend retention time of treatment and lower rate,for raise the compliance of methadone maintenance treatment.
