An Investigation On The Psychological Health And Influential Factors Of Heroin Addicts Attended Methadone Maintenance Treatment

Objective:To explore the mental health of the heroin addicts and influential factors in methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) to find some evidences for more psychological intervention.Methods:Tested 243 cases of heroin addiction in MMT from tianxin district of Changsha by SCL-90, simple way to the questionnaire, then described and compared the level of mental health of different types of heroin addicts with statistical analysis such as T test,χ2 test,One-way ANOVA and nonconditional logistic regression.Results:1. There were 174 (82.1%)male, and 38 (17.9%)female among 212 investigators, the youngest was only 21 years old, and the oldest was 56; 84% investigators were unemployed, and the degree of education were most junior high school, be married, lived with their family, the source of income coming from their friends were the common features among the investigators.2. There were fairly serious mental problems among the heroin addicts in MMT from tianxin district of Changsha, the positive rate of the mental problem was 57.08%, the top five adverse psychology symptoms were:somatization, depression, enforcement, hostility and anxiety;3. There was statistic difference among the heroin addicts of different marital status, the terroit, horrible and the number of positive entry were lower than both the married group and divorced group. (P< 0.05)4. There was significant difference within several parts of factors points among the heroin addicts with the different living status, different living sources, various family relations, and different types of drug using before treatment. (P< 0.05)5. There was significant difference on the mental health conditions among heroin addicts whom joined in the different methadone treatment time, the total points and the factor points of two years of heroin addicts was low in somatization,depression and other factors. (P< 0.05)6. Gender, times of drug taking during past one month, costs of drug taking during past one month, current working conditions and time of join in the MMT had different effects on heroin addicts in MMT.Conclusions:1. The lever of mental health among the heroin addicts in MMT from tianxin district of Changsha was lower than the Chinese normal people, more than half of heroin addicts had mental problems, the top five adverse psychology symptoms were: somatization, depression, enforcement, hostility and anxiety;2. There were significant differences among different types of heroin addicts on the level of mental health, Gender, times of drug taking during past one month, costs of drug taking during past one month, current working conditions and time of join in the MMT were the important factors which made the differences in mental health of heroin addicts.
