Objective: to study the clinical characteristic of pediatric staphylococcus aureus infection in hospitalization, to understand molecular epidemiology of pediatric staphylococcus aureus infection. Methods: From January 2004 to April 2006, there were 70 hospitalized children enrolled who had infected staphylococcus aureus. The clinical data and antibiotic resistance of staphylococcus aureus were analysed. Overall 51 isolates were detected the PVL gene and mecA gene. Results: Of the 70 episodes of S.aureus infection, 11 were associated with CA-MRSA isolates, 6 were associated with HA-MRSA isolates, and 53 were associated with MSSA. Of the 51 S.aureus isolates, overall 41 isolates (80.4%) were positive for PVL gene, and 32 isolates (62.7%) were positive for mecA gene. Conclusions: Most of the episodes of S.aureus infection diagnosed in our hospital were severe infections.
