Objective To understand the pathological types of renal diseases and their clinical manifestation.Renal biopsy of 216 children suffering from renal diseases from Jan 2002 to Jan 2008 have been analysis. Methods Pathological classifications were made according to the WHO criteria of 1982 for renal pathology or the modified WHO criteria of 1995 by a panel of pathologists and nephrologists in routine clinical pathological rounds, combining with clinical data and laboratory results. Results In the 216 cases of patients, male is 122 cases and female is 94 cases with a male to female ratio is 1.30: 1,age from 1 year to 18 years old(mean 9.75±3.49).There were 172 patients suffering from primary glomerular disease(accounts for79.6%),secondary glomerular disease group take 19.4%(42 cases) and hereditary renal diseases take 0.9%in all 216 patients. In the 172 cases of primary glomerular diseases, the highest morbidity is mesangial proliferate lesion(MsPL),it take 33.7%,the second is minimal change disease(MCD) (accounts for23.8%) and minor glomerular abnormalities(MGA),it take 19.2%.The commonest renal injury is Henoch - Sch(?)nlein purpura glomerulonephritis(HSN) in the 42 cases of secondary glomerular diseases,it is 76%,the second is lupus nephritis(LN),it take 16.7%,The age of 3 to 12 years old take the highest morbidity in primary glomerular diseases, above 7 years old, secondary glomerular diseases are increased, the morbidity in primary glomerular diseases obviously higher than secondary glomerular diseases group at each age stage,it is not significent differences on sex in primary glomerular diseases,in the secondary glomerular diseases group,it is not significent differences on sex. Conclusion Our data shows that the renal diseases in childhood stage is still mainly of primary. The commonest pathological types are mesangial proliferate lesion(MsPL),the next is minimal change disease(MCD) and minor glomerular abnormalities(MGA).The commonest renal injury is HSN in secondary glomerular diseases,it is not significant differences on sex and race,The age of 7 to 12 years old take the highest morbidity in primary glomerular diseases and secondary glomerular diseases.
