Objective To investigate the abnomal expression and significance of paxillin, p130cas and PTEN in esophageal squamous cell carcinomant, and the molecular biology of esophageal carinogenesis. Methods Envision immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expressions of paxillin, p130cas and PTEN in 85 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and in 22 cases of normal tissues, and to analyse the relationship between them and different clinical pathological factors. Results 1) The positive frequency of paxillin and p130cas in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissues and in normal tissues was separately 65.9% and 54.5%, 56.5% and 63.6% (P>0.05). But the positive frequency of PTEN was appearly different in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissues and in naomal tissues . Respectively it was 54.1% and 90.9% (P<0.01). 2) Significiant correlationship was found between paxillin and p130cas (P<0.05). But it was not found between paxillin and PTEN, p130cas and PTEN (P>0.05). 3) no different of the expression of paxillin, p130cas, PTEN among different sex, age, degrees of differentiation as well as other factors were found (P>0.05). However it was found that the expression of paxillin in different ethnics has statistically significan t(P<0.05). Conclusion 1) The cell malignant and metastasis may be promoted by the abnormal expression and the joint expression of paxillin and p130cas in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma It may be one of molecular mechanism in occurrence and development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Furthermore the abnormal expression of paxillin in different ethnics may have the difference of ethnic gene background. 2) The expression of PTEN in squamous cell could be a biological mark and the focast quota of the patient of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, it may be some significant that to be used in the screen and the focast judgement of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma .
