【Objective】With the quick development of science and technology, and increasing used with communication tools, people live in an environment surrounding with magnetic fields, most of them are extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields(ELF-EMF)。More and more people are focus on the topic whether the ELF-EMF would be harmful to people's health .Some scholars had reported that the extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields might be linked to the role of apoptosis in tumor cells in experiment and clinical treatment. In this article , we study effects of extremely low frequency electromagnetic field (EMF) on apoptosis of tumor cells in vitro.【Method】Put human osteogenic sarcoma cells(MG63),breast cancer cells(MCF7),liver cancer cells(HepG2) in 96-hole plates. These plates were exposed to electromagnetic field(10mT,20mT,40mT,60mT) for stimulation twice per day lasting 1 hour for 3 days. The sham-exposure controls were correspondingly established. Inverted phase-contrast microscope was used to observe the cultured cells. MTT assay were applied to reveal the OD value, and flow cytometry was used to detect the apoptosis results with Annexin V—FITC and PI.【Result】We compared the electromagnetic field groups with the normal groups by MTT assay after 72 hours. Analyzing the data in SPSS statistical software, we found the OD value of electromagnetic field groups were significantly less than the normal groups (P<0.05). The rates of apoptosis cells by flow cytometry revealed EMF groups were higher than that in normal groups. The contrast of two groups were significant.【Conclusion】Extremely low frequency electromagnetic field conspicuously restrained the growth status of tumor cells, and some tumor cells could be induced to apoptosis by EMF.
